week 8

I hope that everyone enjoyed the fabulous Halloween Howl put on by our
parent council.  The Halloween celebrations continue this week along with some other events on the horizon...

Language -
Students are putting the final touches on their biographies this week and then this project will be complete.  I'm very proud of the students for applying critical thinking and considering how one woman's success and advocacy impacts other women.  Bravo les amis!   Look for rubrics with final marks over the next week - please sign and return to me.

Math -
Students are now working on a measurement unit in math.  Grade 4s are expected to convert millimetres to centimetres and Grade 5s are working with centimetres, metres and decimal numbers.  We're using our robots for extra practise.  Feel free to explore measurement at home to extend their learning!

Social Studies -
It was a big week for Grade 5s and the rest of Canada with the Federal election.  Students have been analyzing party platforms and assessing leaders.  The excitement the Grade 5s had when they were able to participate in their own, live, Federal vote was amazing to see.  The results of our cohort were an NDP majority!

Halloween -
Students are welcome to wear costumes to school on the 31st which is our 'Costume Chaos day'.  Our SLT (student leadership team) is organizing a junior dance and fun activities for Grades 4s and 5s Thursday afternoon.  Thanks in advance for keeping candy at home that day!

Report Cards -
Progress Reports will be sent home on November 11th.  Parent-teacher interviews will be scheduled over the 3 following days; November 12th, 13th, 14th.  Please keep your eyes open for a sign-up schedule coming home with the students early next week.

Clairlea Reads -
We had our first book club meeting last week and it was such a blast!  We followed the theme from our book of team work and problem-solving and asked students to crack a code for our escape room.  Students worked really well and will be given time this week to meet and complete their code.

Have a great week - bonne semaine!
